esp8366 and pir sensor

hello guys..and really sorry for posting in General Discussion but i m comlpetely lost..i just found out about esp8266 and i m really wondering..i m building a home-made alarm with some pir sensors.but here is the thing..instead of using several arduinos (high cost) around the house,with pir sensors,could i use esp8266 connected with pir sensors?one esp and one pir sensor for every place i want to check?could the code from arduino work with this?really thanks in advance for your time!

thats great!and i think i can use the arduino to program it,since i didnt buy a usb to serial converter..right??esp8266 uses the same code with arduino?or something else??so with this setup (one arduino as main controller connected with raspi) and several esp's with sensors,you think i ll be able to do what i had in mind??thanks again for your help!!
