Connect Module as AP to any phone

I am new to this forum and would appreciate an opinion about my project: It is a wifi enabled phone charger that will be on public bicycles.
A user that rides on these public bicycles will be able to charge his cell phone while riding. I am using the 8266 module to activate a USB output from a Powerbank and charge the phone.
The module will go into AP mode as soon as a current drain is detected in the USB. The phone connects to the AP and sends a command to keep the current flowing through the USB, otherwise it turns off.
I read other posts that talked about problems connecting certain phones to the module. Will this scheme work with with any phone or will I have problems with some models?
