ESP8266 Really Small Message Broker

Hi.
Do you guys think it's possible to compile RSMB (Really Small Message Broker) for the ESP8266?
Of course there would have to be some changes regarding persistence of retained messages and probably some other stuff.
However it would be really awesome if this could be done, as you would be able to run a local battery powered broker in the midst of e.g. a forest, and allow sensors to speak to one another with minimal battery usage.
Also it would just be awesome.
A simple "Yes it is possible" or "No it is not possible" will suffice (if you know what you are talking about that is).
Im willing to give a go on the implementation, because it would be nice to use something like this in my master thesis later this year.
