I basically want to arm an alarm when I leave home (taking my phone with me) and then turn it off when I get home again.

I think my question should be:
"What is the simplest way to ping an IP address and get a yes or no reply".

I did the same Ping-procedure (you saw I asked the same question?) but... now you are relying on your router to identify your phone (and give you the same IP as last time) a better way is to get a hold of the mac-adress of your phone.

I have no idea how to do this (yet) so if anybody has a bright idea how to get the mac-adress please let me know.
