I have bought a
WeMos D1 WiFi UNO development board ESP8266 directly with the IDE.
However on connecting with usb there is no prompt from my computer running windows.
I did the install into the boards menu as suggested.
The port selection is not enabled because the device is not recognised by the system.
I have not been able to install the ch34ig drivers because of this.
Help to get this board working will be appreciated. Only the power and SCK LEDS come on on connecting with usb.

#74616 SOLVED - at least, for me. ymmv.

I bought three of some clone WeMOS D1R2 Arduino form factor boards, and had this issue where the PC wouldn't recognise the board and create a COM port for it. After trying every variant to the CH340 driver I could find out there, I also tried every USB cable I could lay hands on. Bingo! One cable - ONE - out of the dozen or so I had laying around worked with the D1 clones. All the cables worked with other Arduino boards I have that have the micro USB ports.

I've no idea why only one cable in 12 worked, it isn't special, isn't set up for host or anything different that I can see. But apparently for some CH340 serial chips, there's a critical difference.
