How to retrieve binary data (eg. jpg) from a web server ?

At the moment I wait for my 8266 part ans in the meantime
i want to write a testcode for retrieving Binary Data from a webserver via AT Commands. For example fetch a JPG file.
As I see in various examples, only ascii is possible but I don´t know if iám right here ?
Did somebody such a programm lately ?
I don´t do this in Lua or .cpp in the Core Arm. The Arduino should be enough.
I have enough ram soldered on my Leonardo to do this.
any help please ?
