How to detect manure?

Any thoughts on being able to detect manure? As ridiculous as this sounds, I would like some sort of sensor to detect manure. I'm thinking along the lines of PIR or even just a regular RGB cam (happy to use some computer vision). However, I thought I'd ask to see if anyone can come up with any nifty ideas. Is it possible to track and detect a trail of methane? Any thoughts?
