Yikes! My Arduino IDE just started crashing on startup.

I started using Arduino 1.8.9 for Ardunio about a year ago. Then shortly thereafter I started to use it for the 8266. Never had a problem with it running (until today.) I've got a lot of sketches using 1.8.9 and didn't want to risk something bad by upgrading in case something wasn't downward compatible. I've spent (too many) hours a day for the last month during our lock down doing some new IOT stuff. I've been compiling uploading all day to day as per usual and then all of a sudden when I start it off I get the splash screen and the message in the lower left corner saying "Initializing Packages" and then it crashes. According to task manager nothing Ardunio IDE is running after the crash. I've rebooted the Window (10) box but no joy. Anyone seen this before? (I didn't find any concrete answers on google as it relates to this. The closest I found was someone that had a Windows issue but that doesn't seem to be my problem as everything else seems unaffected.) Sigh....
