rssi detect

I just bought 4 esp8266 and for my project I need to detect the rssi signal from one of the 4 esp8266 (I will call transmitter) and detect the other three (which I will call receiver). the problem (but I do not know whether it is really a problem) is that the three receivers are not always near and so will not always be connected to the transmitter. you can detect the signal rssi even if the receivers are not connected to the transmitter?
