Constant blue light

Hi,

After loads of different setups connecting my 8266 to my Arduino Uno I'm stuck.

As of now I use an external 3.3v powersource connected to Vcc, CH_PD and RESET.

I have my Arduino TX connected to the 8266 TX using three resistors to bring down voltage.

When I connect the "end resistor" of this line to the external GND I get a constant blue light and when I type in the Serial monitor I get no response but the text I write apears as out.
If I put that resistor to the Arduino GND I get no blue light and no response at all.

I have experimented around a bit but I as the lights are working and there have been no heavy smoke drifting along my desk I don't think I've burnt it.

I'm no electronics wizard, does anyone have a clue?
