$1.5k for FCC certification?! Mind sharing the name of your testing house? We're seeing prices on the order of $15-20k, with anechoic chamber rentals being on the order of $1k/hour alone.

This is in mainland China, Schenzhen area, so the prices are an order of magnitude lower

We have used this lab, http://cts-lab.com/ We mail them the parts and a test jig. They do tests and FCC accepts the results. Our products are listed in the FCC database. Costs about $700-1000 depending on what you get tested. CTS is listed at the FCC as being an approved lab.

This works because of a loop hole created by some international treaties. In the US it is over $1,200 just to file the paperwork with the FCC. How can I get the testing done and the paperwork filed for $700? It is because foreign entities can file with the FCC for free and escape the $1,200 filing fee. Then add in all of the effects of US salaries and US facilities and you end up with a 10 to 1 cost ratio.

Where I get my modules

- Mon Oct 20, 2014 8:46 pm #1797 jonsmirl, is there anything stopping me from taking one of the available modules with a shield on it, paying the couple grand to have it FCC certified for modular use, and selling it for a few dollars more than the non-fcc stamped ones?

- Mon Oct 20, 2014 8:59 pm #1798 Yes, they have to have a power regulator on the module to pass the certification. None of the ones I have seen have it.

power regulators cost a nickel (but you might not want to use one that cheap).

Labs in China charge about $1,000 to do this testing.
