Just got a few ESP8266 modules (still a novice at this point). They came with older firmware 00170901 that seems to be working, with all the noted issues.
I first updated the firmware automatically with AT+CIUPDATE. Not sure what version it installed because while the module wakes up fine after flashing and echoes the commands (except that there is no line feed, just the carriage return, so the cursor comes back to the beginning of the command I just typed). It does not respond to the commands (there is no response from the module).
I use Putty with default settings (just have to change the baud rate to 9600 of course) like I was using with the original firmware.
Then I tried flashing the firmware referenced in another thread (experimental firmware with NetIO enabled, using the esp8266_flasher.com tool under Windows 7), and I got the same result.
I came back to the earlier version 00170901 and all is working again.
What is different with the new versions? Is it a serial line setting issue?
Thanks in advance
Didier
