The ESP offers the chance to be used as an access point. Is there a (simple) way to implement a MQTT server (broker) on a ESP with the Arduino IDE?

as I understand the situation so far, there is no server application for MQTT on the ESP8266.
ESP Now may be an alternative but there is almost no experience with that.
