TCCR2A& TCCR2B are AVR registers, nothing to do with ESP8266.....

Basically they fudged the timing so they would not have to do it the simpler route of using micros() function, but ESP8266 can use it with little overhead.... if I can find time I will look as I would like to see the code working on ESP8266, but time does not permit currently.
