- Sat Jan 28, 2017 9:10 pm #61683 I setup the ardunio ide, https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software the boards manager and after a good amount of effort was able to upload some sketches and life was good.

Now this stopped working and I am feeling that I am pending more effort getting the ardunio ide to work with my esp8266 e12. I get an error message "can not communicate on com 3 "

is there a simpler way to upload sketches ( something that supports the esp8266 out of the box ) ?

What is your prospect of "out of the box"?

Since you were so elaborate on everything except your setup maybe try to go for more "simple" to comprehend: windows instead of linux or mac-os, NodeMCU board instead of bare ESP-xx

But basically it breaks down to: you at least need to know via wich (virtual) serial port you want/need to communicate. Or in other terms: which "opening" to shove the fuel pistol into ...
