The instant fix came when I read somewhere on adafruit website that an SD card is to be formatted using official SDFormatter utility.

Moreover, opening the log file in Excel then appending it by ESP made the card no longer recognised by Windows. This was fixed by formatting it by ESP. Took 32 s for a 1 GB SD card. (When the card was not mounted, format succesfully and quite quickly formatted the FLASH - be warned.)
