#90077 Never pull any GPIO to either low or high without using a resistor. During the boot process almost all GPIO are temporarily an output for various signals. If you pull them hard down or up, you can damage the output circuitry.

#90858 I built a pcb adapter for flashing ESP-12 using CH340G to connect with USB. It connects with ESP-12 using pogo pins.
You could get a bare pcb from here if you want to test it. You need to cut the pcb using a cutting disc to separate the two boards.
