There is a companion programming board for it that is out of stock at the moment. 1,000 are supposed to be in production and are due any day now.

For the central node - any Linux/Windows/Mac box can talk to these if it has a Bluetooth 4.0 dongle and a recent OS.

- Sat Mar 28, 2015 11:38 pm #12899 Since you said you would power it on and off then the esp8266 might be able to run quite a while on batteries depending on how often you use it. I would also recommend either the esp-07 or esp-12. I would also recommend NodeMCU lua firmware to do that small job. You could make it a one button solution to turn it on and off. Sounds pretty simple and yes the esp would be less costly. If you are an amazon prime member you can also get them there with free 2-day shipping.
