I've been doing some non-scientific RSSI tests using an esp-12 and and esp-03 module. I'm looking at the rssi reported by the SDK and also at what my access points report. I'm using an engenius indoors and a ubiquiti bullet with an 8dBi omni antenna outdoors. I pretty much consistently get 10dB better signal from the esp-12 over the esp-03. I know that the advertising of the esp-12 includes "better RF design" but it's interesting to see for real. With the esp-12 I can maintain -80dB signal strength at the AP RX end while being 500ft away behind a concrete block wall, that's very nice! The esp-12 seems to do better than my cell phone!
Disclaimer: my tests aren't scientific, I just walked around with both units in my hand. If anyone has done tests with a careful set-up it would be awesome to hear!
