#40159 GPIO2 must be HIGH, both to upload a firmware, and to boot normally.
GPIO0 must be LOW to upload firmware, and HIGH to boot normally.

#40184 I've just tried to pull GPIO2 high, but still no luck.
The way the blue serial LED is flashing on the ESP in sync with the LED on the usb adaptor, suggests that there is an issue with the Tx pin on the ESP. I've ordered a couple more new ones to see if it is the ESP that's causing me trouble.
