I have the same problem with 2 of my ESP01 modules. It happended after I updated the firmware. One I did the cloud update and the other I used esptool.py. I have 3 other modules that are working and are still using the 00180902 firmware. I want to upgrade them but I'm worrried the same thing will happen as my other 2 modules. Maybe I'm not using the correct firmware, I got 0.95 from the ElectroDragon website but it did not seem to work.
Have you been able to successfully upgrade to 0.95?

Sorry for this late response, can't believe more than a year has passed.
Anyway, I did not upgrade to 0.95. I am using Lua on it to run a simple on/off switch!
