That would definitely make sense but it didn't occur to me as I doubt that many people who buy a dev board rather than just the bare ESP-12 would be replacing the firmware.
Incidentally I did try the highest speed (921600) and it works perfectly. 921600 baud is a very big improvement over 9600 your help will save me a lot of time so thank you once again.
