While the esp is spec'ed for 1.8-3.6v (IIRC), other devices may require 3v or more. 2xAA is 2.4v (NiMH, though will start higher). I, for example, use a ds18b20 which requires at least 3v. I use 3xAA (or a 1xLi-Ion or 1xLiPo) with an MCP1700.

The SPI flash used on most ESP modules requires at least 2.7V. At lower voltages they may refuse to perform write operations.

1/ (@AdamWu @Eyal) - Capacitor : how do you use the capacitor? between VCC and GND? So far I've had some 10uF, but today I've received a bunch of different capacities (from 10pF to 1mF) , so I will try them all.

2/ (@torntrousers, @Eyal)Other devices: I have just my ESP-12E to power.

3/ (@torntrousers) - 2 AA: In my first steps with ESP8266 I've tried and failed to power with 2xAA cells. That's why I've turned to 3.3V step-up or step-down modules. Can you please post me a basic schematic of your 2xAA + ESP logging to https://thingspeak.com/channels/74796 ?

- Wed Jan 13, 2016 6:07 pm #38719 No schematic but its just the batteries connected to an ESP12 on one of those white base boards, with a couple of bypass capacitors - 100uF and 100nF. It gave 19292 wakeup- wifi connect - http request - back to sleep cycles before dying. Here's a photo:
