Using Serial Tx and RX pins as GPIOs

- Fri Jan 06, 2017 2:36 pm #60558 Hi, I've heard that the TX and RX pins can be used as GPIO pins but im not exactly sure how to do this. I own an ESP8266-12e NodeMCU v2 board. Also, after using it as GPIOs how do u get it back to normal as Serial pins?

I also noticed that there are 3 TXD pins (TXD0, TXD1 and TXD2) but only 2 RXD pins (RXD0 and RXD2). Where is the RXD1 pin? And why is it not given in the pin breakout?
