arrange the door switch so the door has to be opened a inch or so before it triggers. Then you will have a trigger in both directions. You could then use MQTT logic to determine its state by its last state. (guessing since I haven't used MQTT)

so someone enters the room and the switch is triggered.
The same person still in the room shuts the door like our mommy's have learned us and the light goes off with that person still in the room.....
Some one enters the room and shuts the door, that is two times trigger and the lamp goes on.
Then someone else enters the room ?????
Lights go off .........
Use a pir and detect motion.
Will be an easier solution.

A door sensor would be unpractical if it was used to control a light in a room, I agree. However in my case it's going to control a spotlight that lights up a dartboard when the doors covering it are opened.
