#32050 Hi, Newbie here :?

All this is new territory for me but I am looking for a new IDE I can cope with as I am disappointed with the Arduino IDE though it has been an easy way into programming the Arduino and ESP8266 boards. I keep seeing the mention of LUA , NodeMCU and MOD-Wifi- thingy wotsit boards :? :? . I'm not sure what firmware/version I have all I do know is, I have vanilla flavoured boards as bought from China/HongKong/Phillipines etc and so my question has to be ... can I write/re-write my sketches and upload them to the ESP8266-12 boards that I have using ESPlorer.

I have tried several IDE and I am usually lost as soon as I start with settings, environment and talk of tool chains (whatever they are!!) and all the deeper C language requirements. Can anyone say whether this would be do-able for a beginner? My sketches work but I know they are wasteful of space and inefficient but I can live with that for the moment.

I really must move on from the Arduino IDE
