I have just expanded this step by step tutorial how to control humidity in home with section on interacting ESP8266 with openHAB.

OpenHAB plays very well with ESP8266 using MQTT. This may be a good alternative to writing own user interface for ESP and several people on this forum are already using openHAB in their projects.
