Mac freezes whenever I try to upload a sketch

Whenever I try to upload a sketch to my ESP-01 board does the following: It connects, starts to upload and then crashes/freezes my Mac. I then have to do a hard reboot.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Could it be something to do with my ftdi board?

Any help would be appreciated!
