I cloned your Github repository and then shamelessly plagiarised the hmacsha256test sketch to make an RFC2202 hmacsha1test, which ran fine and passed all the tests so I appear to have exactly what I was looking for.

Have you a few simple lines for encoding of a text message to send, and how to decode the message on a remote ESP.

I only made changes to make the library run on the ESP8266. The original code was written by Peter Knight.
