#15747 Besides 18650 Battery, if you have some old Mobile phone battery laying around, it is also a good 3.7V LiPo battery.
You can still buy those in Ebay, like this one.

Maximum ESP8266 VCC voltage is 3.6V. Fully charged Li-Ion battery provides 4.2V. Do you use something to get 3.3V from Li-Ion battery for ESP8266 power?

I prefer to have a onboard 3.3V regulator, gives you more flexibility in terms of power supply
