#52963 The first time ESP basic boots it is missing the files for the wifi connection information.
I have a feeling that if you go over to the setting page on the esp and save your settings that these msgs will stop appearing at boot as saving these setting creates these files.

#52968 Is it possible you are missing a step.

1. flash unit
2. after flash preform a hard reset remove power
3. plug power back in
4. wait for 1 minute
5. Scan wifi with a phone or computer or tablet.
6. Find the one that begins with ESP
7. Connect to it.
8. Keep periodically checking if you are still connected if so set as default for the time being.
9. Once connected use Chrome or Firefox to connect open that up.
10. Visit 192.168.4.1
11. Visit the settings page.

Version 3.0 does have a fair bit of examples as well. Currently there are only subtle differences between examples what would be great is if everyone who joined in as a learning experience for them and a helping hand for everyone took the example they wanted to use and read the documentation to figure out how to do the conversion for 3.x and then posted the new example for 3.x. This would be paying it forward to all the folks that took the time to make examples.

Otherwise you will be stuck in an endless 2.x loop.

mmiscool has been upgrading a bit the examples on the website to reflect 3.x to each their own but would be excellent if everyone would help out in this respect so we can continue to move on to the newer branch if there is problems or you need help on the conversion just make a post I'm sure you will get some help.

Take Care hope this helps you get up and running.

#53000 Many thanks for the additional advice.

Having followed everything in forlotto's list, I still had a "Cannot connect to this network" message from my Win10 desktop. On a whim, I tried connecting from my mobile phone and - whaddyaknow - it connected, and I was able to get the ESPbasic web page up!

I then tried with a Win10 tablet, and again, successfully connected. So I don't know what is preventing me from connecting via my desktop - I have tried turning off the firewall and other tricks without success - but I guess that's a question for a different forum - unless anybody here has any ideas?

Anyway, now up and running, so a big learning curve to get stuck into. :)

#53023 Often times on a desktop with a usb adapter there is something odd with the way it retains information often I need to go into device manager remove my wifi adapter then unplug the adapter manually and replug it and it will work if you toy with it enough you will get it.

If you are connected with more than one device you will not be able to connect on the other device if this makes since but as of now you can use your tablet or phone to connect to your wifi router in station mode and then access it from the IP from your desktop over your local network by typing the ip of the device in either firefox or chrome do not use another browser as basic is actually built to support chrome in particular.

Enjoy you should be able to get it to work play with it a little get the hang of what works.

Another thing that works for me is if I power down my esp and try to connect to it on my desktop when it is powered down it will not connect then I right click and forget network eventually the network will no longer be available in the list on my desktop at this time I plug the esp back in and connect to it and it works. It is something with desktop wifi I don't fully understand it I just know how to make it happy.

You will get it just don't give up find out what works and you are golden you can do it every time nearly without fail.
