The ESP OS is a sort of real-time operating system, that's why there's no main(); everything is a task that is queued up to be done in turn. I don't know the limit for these... might be something like 8 or 16 separate timers running. Hey, it's just a $4 chip!

It looks like there actually is only one timer available (I guess others are used for wlan etc).

But that doesn't need to be a problem. If the timer runs fast enough, it can be used to emulate several timers in software.

- Thu Jun 18, 2015 12:01 pm #20836 there is another timer from the chip, look for Timer0 in the github esp8266\Arduino source for how to access it. It isn't configurable other than setting the compare register to trigger the interrupt. It is what I used to implement the Servo library.
