the ESP8266 product page says it support 802.11n, doesn't that mean it should deliver 802.11n speeds?

but, for other chips, isn't there a WiFi mode where the process just passes the data right through, without buffering?

edit: i guess that's repeater mode, and i guess it depends on the firmware.
