I know that an overvoltage can destroy the device but there are problem also with too much current?

The current is decided by the load, not the source. So the load can overload the power supply by pulling more current than the supply can deliver, which can cause the supply to fail, usually by delivering reduced voltage.
Using a power supply that can deliver more current than the load needs is not at all a problem. On contrary, it is considered to be a good thing, as you have margin towards the limit of the supply.
