I was working on code which needed time to be available offline (ie. when module has no internet access). During the course I needed to setup the RTC (and I2C). Instead of manually setting the time, I relied on the SNTP apis to get NTP time and set the RTC. The code was written and tested on ESP-01. Code is available at https://github.com/anupak/esp8266-samplecode/tree/master/i2c_rtc.
