Ah... Got it. Thank you very much. This sounds like the right solution. I was thinking swap only swaps the uart to the same pins but it appears swapping also changes the pins one uses. Should have read the docs for the swap function.

Setting a terminal emulator (Realterm) to 76800 still results in garbage
