So if your D cells have 18000 mAh capacity and they last 10 days then the current been drawn is 10 days times 24 hours divided into 18000 mAh = 18000 / 240 = 75mA. Which matches closely to what an awake ESP with WiFi on uses. So it seems likely yours can't be properly going into deep sleep most of the time?
