But those are not as cheap as they should ...

'Package content' says '1 x WIFI Wireless Transceiver Module' but title and image says '2x ESP8266 modules' which is 4USD

This one (http://www.ebay.de/itm/1-2-5-Stuck-ESP8 ... 1256911444) states 3.40EUR (5pieces). I find that attractive for the following reasons:
. 'huge' PCB
. 3x pin headers that are soldered
. pin headers look like 2.54mm/0.1in but I don't know
. u.fl and u.fl cable (which you might not need)

One could make a PCB with LDO for this module which is put ON TOP (Spare out ufl and antenna if you use it) and put some solder in the holes to grab the short ends of the modules pin headers. By doing so, the top of the module PCB gets shielded by the PCB with the LDO.

#5197 The .1 pitch boards on eBay seem to be cheaper as there are 2 for the price.

I personally always buy at least 2 of this sort of thing, as its easy to accidentally damage one, in fact I normally buy 3 or 4, as long as they are only $5 each ;-)

.1 pitch is probably going to be the most popular size in future I suspect, as wiring on ESP03 etc into existing .1 boards is a pain.
