I tried https://github.com/knolleary/pubsubclient
Works a treat against topics.
It appears to corrupt payloads though so not much use. Developer slow to respond. I have otherwise checked out my MQTT server (Mosquitto) and my node-red servers (on orange pi and on windows 10).
