#12101 does anyone have any preference for 18650 cells?

this looks like it has a nice 6000mAh for 99p: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281626121177 (edit: terrible reviews, more like 1500mAh)

are there any with protections built-in, just seems if you're doubling the price by adding a charger/monitor circuit, you may as well pay £2 for a battery with pc internalised.

#12111 I've been using tiny Lipo batteries used for Syma quad coptors - 3.7 v 600 mah.
Using a similar little usb charger card as you show. It's stand-alone, JRT connectors on the battery, charger, & ESP. I take the battery off the ESP to charge as I'm not certain that it's ok to leave it connected while running.
I set the ESP up to send temp (ds18b20) and node.readvdd33() every 30 minutes and dsleep in between.
I was going to put a diode in line to drop the voltage down but as an experiment I didnt.

They've been running for 2 weeks now, voltage is still reporting as 4090 - looks like it's going to run for a LONG time before it needs recharging!

I'm going to look into the battery you suggest, I'm not sure which will be smallest or best.

I don't know where did you find the reviews, but I don't need to read bad reviews about these batteries to know they are not as good as advertised

You can allways buy the kind of cheap batteries and then use a chager with battery protection (over charge and discharge) to avoid potential problems, but never expect they last as long as the advertise said...
