#14199 I have also seen this problem.

I have come up with an idea I am going to try:

I have designed a PCB with a USB-plug, an ASM1117-3.3 and room for two capacitors (through-hole because I can't solder smd very well). My prototype test indicates that maybe capacitors aren't even needed.

The ESP-01 pins are long, so I plan to solder them to the boards as low as possible, and for setup plug the pins coming out on the other side in my normal ESP-01 programmer. The PCBs are also small enough to leave the antenna free and has GND-G0-Vcc and GND-G2-Vcc holes.

At OSH park they cost $3.35 for three, with free shipping. The regulator cost < $0.10 on ebay.

WARNING: I haven't yet tested this design, the test-batch is in the mail.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Nice find! I saw some similar, potted units (similar pricing too) on eBay, but with no discernible markings. At least with yours the maker isn't scared to put their name on the top. :-)
