Seems like there is a more streamlined "transparent" sending mode in the new firmware version (April 10th) that at least removed the need to keep sending the AT+ commands between each packet. A couple percent speed increase though I would think. I'd also be interested to know what the maximum data rate is and where the bottleneck is. It's not the UART baud rate, otherwise wireless transfer rate should be around 6MB a minute, if my rough calculations are correct. Perhaps the handshaking and packet processing, or maybe errors in transmission depending how far the ESP is from the receiving end.
I would think data compression before sending and after receiving could be quite helpful depending on the nature of the data you are sending. Good compression can sometimes multiply data rate by an order of magnitude.
