I tried it and it works, but you wil have to install the Sermus version of the SDK in your Arduino IDE.

I've modified the Adafruit_SSD1306 library in order to work with the ESP8266 board.

I have a working example for SPI communication. Haven't had the chance to try it with I2C yet.

Somhi, thank you for posting this. I'm trying to get the wiring right for SPI, and I seem to be failing. Based on your example code, you only have 3 wires connected? Just CS -> 15, DC -> 2, and RESET -> 16?
I'm getting no response from the SSD1306, so I'm trying to figure out what's wrong. Everything compiles and uploads correctly, it seems, but no display.
