Has anyone tried to control a HeatPump via an IR LED from a ESP?

Originally I was planning on doing this with an Arduino but since switched to ESPs. The project I was using was this:

- Mon Jun 22, 2015 3:20 am #21189 I had some issues with compiling so I guess there's work needed. Trawling through the code I can see this PWM stuff

Needs to be adjusted to the ESP I guess. But no comments and it definitely reaches the limits of what code I can read/understand. I get what it's sort of doing but wouldn't even know where to start on the ESP.
