I'm a newbie here but I'll offer some thoughts that ... unfortunately ... probably won't be worth much. First, try a baud rate of 115200. That is what I have been using.
Next, pull the wire that goes to TX of your USB<->Serial so that the ESP8266 is only transmitting. Do you still see the spurious characters?
Next, and I would suggest this as a matter of course, describe the pin layouts of your board and how they are connected. For example, what are RESET, CH_PD, GPIO0 and GPIO2 connected to?
