I have been using a couple ESP-01 modules (from eBay). The modules connect,etc. but run very hot. So hot that I cannot touch the chip. It is running off a dedicated 3.3V supply and the chip gets hot even without any serial connections. CH_PD is connected to Vcc and I had updated the firmware to is 0018000902. Using Kill-A-Watt I saw the power consumption to be 4.7W. Any suggestions?

Check your connection again. Try chpd pin free. I had some problem and i change my power supply and problem solved.

This is new to me. I bought 5 (ESP-01) off aliexpress and they work fine.
