Sorry for digging out this old thread, but I have exactly the same problem (YwRobot MB-102, hot ESP...). See http://www.esp8266.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4356.
But my self designed AMS1117 circuit shows the same problem.
The regulators are warm to the touch, not hot. But the ESP chips are getting hot after a few minutes.
