#28577 i had the same problem of the esp03 getting very very hot, but i solved it by connecting the CH_PD to VCC with 2.2K resistor (not directly).

#31563 Mine worked briefly but also got very hot..I laser measured it above 180F and unplugged it.. that module no longer works
if the others from that batch also fail i'll chock it up to a bad batch too

I have another, i will try the pull-up and see if that helps.

If i cant save these modules, I think i'll look into the esp-12's (i think thats the newer one)

#32668 You are not trying to run it at 5V, nor do you have ANYTHING connected that works at 5V?

Also better use pull-ups and pull-downs than direct connections to ground or +3.3V.
