I've done a project makes an Arduino-compatible board, 86Duino, can connect to ROS(Robot Operating System), called rosserial for 86Duino. And I use it on my 86Hexpods, an open-source, 3D-printed hexapod robot. I think this project may be helpful for someone has similarity purposes. The 86Hexapod page on ROS Wiki.
