because when i poke around in the folder most items open in a COMMAND window and i have no idea what i am doing in there.. so i think that's where i am always getting lost... because i found the folder "v0.9.6_b1_15_02_15.zip. "
but have not been able to really use it..

And once again.... if you are able to do AT commands, please do AT+GMR and tell us the output. (5)

Please read my post which says that the bin files came from that zip file.
Unpack the zip file and find those bin files.

You posted here that you had had success getting files out of the zip file and flashing them to the chip: viewtopic.php?p=38264#p38264

So however you did that, you should do again. Unpack the zip file. And get the 4 files referred to in my post and then flash them.

Before doing that, though, run AT+GMR at the terminal and send us the results. (6)

#38342 ok,, i went back and did exactly as you showed here with the "v0.9.6_b1_15_02_15" firmware.
i did everything below as stated before..

boot_v1.3(b3).bin 0x00000 - 100%
user1.512.new.bin 0x01000 - 100%
blank.bin 0x3e000 - 75% -
blank.bin 0x7e000 -75%

Ex. connecting ....
Erasing flash...
Writing at 0x00000000... (0 %)
Writing at 0x00000400... (25 %)
Writing at 0x00000800... (50 %)
Writing at 0x00000c00... (75 %)
Leaving...
Failed to leave Flash mode

now that i have this on.. the terminal does not respond at all..
i am getting frustrated :(
with previous firmware it responded...but now nothing,, it says i am connected, but no commands respond at all.

#38344 What speed are you flashing at? Try something slower.
Flash the other firmware and make sure that still works.
And do an AT+GMR on it. Maybe it's good enough.

#38350 the flasher i am using does not have a baud rate option..
i am using a "ESP8266 FLASH DOWNLOADER"
the flasher program is in this folder ( ESP8266_flasher_V00170901_00_Cloud Update Ready )
https://github.com/Stadslab/ESP8266_example/tree/master/ESP8266_flasher_V00170901_00_Cloud%20Update%20Ready

i do not find such a flasher in the ( v0.9.6_b1_15_02_15 Folder ) that's why i was asking what do i need to make this one work.
i been using the flasher and entering the bin files.
maybe i can get it right if you can recommend a correct flasher program. perhaps this is my whole issue ?
